Product Description

The BMW GM3 / GM-III Basic Control Module (also known as Grundmodul / General Module / ZKE-III) with reference numbers 61.35-6920819, 6920819, 6922273, and 60837710 is an OEM body control unit used in BMW 5 Series (E39) and 7 Series (E38) vehicles (as well as X5 E53) of the late 1990s to early 2000s.

This module handles many vehicle body and comfort functions such as:

Central locking / door modules
Interior / courtesy lighting
Window and sunroof control
Signal distribution to various body subsystems (e.g. trunk, horn, wash/wipe)
Interface and communication on K-Bus / body bus systems
Some safety / alarm / immobilizer related signals

The GM3 module is known to fail (especially due to moisture or internal component degradation). Many specialist repair services exist to refurbish or rebuild them.

When replacing, it’s essential to ensure the module’s part number, hardware / software version, connector pin layout, and coding match your vehicle’s configuration. After installation, module coding or adaptation may be required so that it correctly integrates with the existing body and comfort modules in the car.

Important Notes & Recommendations

Even when the part number matches, differences in software version or optional features (sunroof, alarm, comfort options) can cause mismatch issues.
Many GM3 modules suffer from internal failures due to moisture ingress, capacitor failures, solder joint cracks, etc. Repair / refurbishment services are common.
When replacing, it’s ideal to match hardware version, software version, and to code / program / adapt the module to the car.
Always request photos of the module label showing the full part number, HW / SW version, and connector layout.
It’s possible to repair your existing module rather than replacing it entirely, via specialist services (repair & return).
