Product Description

This is a genuine OEM Basic Comfort Module (BCM/CCM) for the BMW E46 series (approx. 1998-2007), bearing the part number 61.35-8385538 (sometimes shown as 8385538). This module manages many body-electrical functions including interior lighting, central locking, window & mirror control, sunroof functions (if equipped), and various body bus communications.

This unit is often removed from vehicles where those features are failing (locks not working, interior lights, windows, etc.). Replacement modules are typically listed as “GM5 / GM5RD / Grundmodul” etc., meaning they share the GM5 body control architecture.

When sourcing this module, it’s critical to check the exact part number, hardware/software version, connector pin layout, and the vehicle’s option configuration (doors, sunroof, comfort functions). Many modules require coding or adaptation to match your car’s VIN and wiring harness.

Compatibility Table

Vehicle Make	Model / Generation	Year Range	Part Number(s)	Notes
BMW	3 Series E46 (sedan, coupe, touring)	~1998-2007	61.35-8385538 / 8385538	Verified listing for this part number for E46 models.
BMW	3 Series E46	~1998-2007	Modules labelled GM5 / GM5RD with same part number	Used in many E46 variants (323i, 325i, 328i) in used-part listings.

Important Notes & Warnings

Even when the part number matches, software/hardware revision or vehicle option set (sunroof, central locking, comfort package) may differ and lead to incompatibilities.
Many modules are part of the body electronics network; replacing without proper coding may cause communication faults or disabled functions.
Always ask for photos of the module label (showing part number, HW/SW version) and the connector pins to ensure fitment.
Because this module controls many comfort & convenience features, you should verify that the replacement module supports your vehicle’s features (e.g., sunroof, power mirrors, central locking).
If the original unit failed due to water ingress or damage, inspect wiring harness and connectors for corrosion before replacing the module.
